Patty in NYC

When we went to NYC, we decided to make sure we got some great shots of not just our couples in action, but NYC in action. Although we got some very creative shots of our engaged couple, Cristi & Wayne and our trash the dress couple, Natalie & David, but we got some really unique shots of the city itself. And, when we were waiting for our subway, Patty was trying to get the train in motion, and I shot this one of her. I love it! I think it's so great that not only is Patty in action, but so is the train!!!

Say Yes to These Dresses!!!

As I watch the show "Say Yes to the Dress"on TLC (I'm a wedding show junkie), I always wish I could direct the brides to get something that's not the norm! I love to photograph brides that show their individuality and style through their wedding dress! Of course, there are those "princess" brides that need the full ballroom dress and cathedral length veils. But, the new modern bride wants something fun, edgy and editorial in feel. While, still remaining feminine and beautiful. Which is why I just absolutely love the dresses by the up and coming wedding dress designer, Stephanie Ward from Punk Rock Bride. Her designs are so unique and simple, and yet so detailed and edgy! She was recently interviewed by the Washington Post! (Read the interview in the Washington Post Article.) Here is a small excerpt from her interview. "The name (Punk Rock Bride) is really not meant to be taken that literally -- we really just wanted something that represented an alternative to what was traditionally bridal. And punk rock music was all about personal expression and rebelling against the mainstream. We're trying to do that on a different level and in a different venue, of course." Read the rest of her interview, or check out her website!!!

Miami Wedding Photography : Thank you gift

It always gets me by surprise when we receive gifts from our clients, I just don't expect it. But when it happens it feels soooo good. Even the smallest token of appreciation means that we have exceeded their expectations as photographers. Naisleth and Roberto gave us this frame as a gift. When I opened the box my first thought was what a beautiful picture :). Then I thought what a beautiful frame, when I noticed that it was engraved "To the Best Photographers Ever" my heart just melted! How sweet is this couple can it get any better. We are so blessed to be making a living doing what we love most and then to thanked for it...wow...the icing on the cake. From day one this couple has been amazing so sweet and wonderful to work with.

Naisleth and Roberto,
Thank you soooo much! I am so happy that we were honored to photograph one of the most important days in your life. This gift meant so much to us, thank you!

Vero Beach Museum of Art Print Exhibit

I am so excited!  Why?  Because 2 of my photographs were displayed at the Vero Beach Museum of Art Print Exhibit.  I entered these 2 photos, which were both taken at weddings.

The first, “Flowers” was taken at Gina and Javier Orozco’s Wedding outside of their church in between their ceremony and reception.  Patty posed them beautifully for her shot, and I decided to plop on the floor below them, and there it is.  A shot that I am very proud of!  (This one won a merit award and will be published in the Vero Beach Magazine in Februay!)

The second, “Dance of Tears” was shot during a dance that Angie Colon dedicated to her grandparents.  I love this picture because her grandfather’s face says so much.  He almost looks like he is in a different moment-not in the present.  He is remembering something in the past, as Angie and her grandmother hug him tightly full of emotion.

Out of 150 entries, only 50 were displayed in the exhibition at the museum.  And 2 were mine!  Pretty good odds, I say!

A word from Parker J.

I wanted to share a few words that Parker J. (kick ass photographer) mentioned on the wedding planning blog, Style Me Pretty.

"Don’t settle with your wedding images. This day only happens once. This is a day that you have been dreaming of since you were in pigtails. This is a day when you will see your father cry for the first time. This is a day that marks the beginning of a new life. This is a day that will never happen again. How will you choose to remember it? An image should not only be seen with your eyes, but felt in your heart."

Susie and I have posted about this subject before, but for some reason when Parker J. explains it, it sounds sooo much better.

What is important to you when planning a wedding? Don't settle on a photographer!

RATE- P.S. Photography

One of our brides, Carolina, submitted us as photographer in http://www.southfloridaweddingvendors.com/. She of course rated us 5/5; thank you very much. I love to get feedback from clients. It reassures us that we are providing great service. I would say 90% of our clients are referrals, so we realize how it important it is to keep our clients happy. I can honestly say we go above and beyond for our clients. At the end of their wedding day I can consider them friends. It helps to have a good relationship with your clients, it definitely makes the job easier and so much more fun.
The website Carolina submitted us in is super cool. It's hard to explain, but it's basically an extension to "The Knot" site. Read on to get a better understanding.
"Well, imagine that I wanted to see which knotties used "XYZ florist". To get this information on the knot, I would probably create a post that says "Has anyone used XYZ florist?". I would get some responses, mostly from current brides. This would be useful information, and I could chat with other brides about that florist etc., but wouldn't it be better if I could find out which PAST brides had used that florist? Then I could read their vendor review of that florist and take a look in their bio to see if they had wedding pictures posted to see the that florist's work in action!"
It seems like it would be super helpful when planning a wedding. It would be great if we can get some more clients to submit their rating. In order to submit a rating or comment you must register, but Carolina told me it took her seconds. Thanks in advance!

I love our brides!!!

Here's another compliment from one of the best brides ever!!!  She is so nice and sweet!  I love it!!!  It feels good to hear how appreciated your art is!
"Hi Susie and Patty:
I saw the pics last night when I got home around 11 pm and went to sleep around 1:00 am. my sisters, cousins, friends, and family have been in your website all day long, they are in love with them. i have to tell u my mom was so sad b/c she thought there were no pics of me and her by ourselves and when I saw that you took some; i called her to let her know and she is like i am going to call them to let them know that they are the best photographers in the WORLD!!!, and i have laughed so much b/c she got so happy. just wanted to share it w/u.
-Naisleth"

What's more important?

When planning your wedding, what is most important to you? I like to ask this question because it makes a bride think.  What is most important?  Is it the dress?  The food?  The photography?  I feel that many bride's cut corners in the wrong places.  Your wedding is one of the most important events of your life.  And it goes by in a blur.  By the time you realize it, the dj is playing the last dance.  And, what is left after you whiz off to your honeymoon?  Your pictures.
We have gotten 3 different brides call us in the past few months telling us that they wish they had booked us over the photographer they did book.  Because of cutting corners here and there, they had decided to book a photographer that either charged them less or gave them more bang for their buck.  Well, they are now so unhappy with their pictures; we even booked one for portraits of her and her husband back in their wedding attire.

So it's just a thought...  Make sure you know what is most important to you.  Once the wedding day is over, it's the memories that last.  You need to have someone you can trust in charge of those memories...  You don't want to regret it once your day is over.

Oh how I love compliments!

Last week I met with Cynthia and Jovanni to talk details about their upcomming wedding. I usually can tell within the first 15 min. if I click with clients. Click meaning the conversation is flowing and I am having a good time talking. Well this particular couple was at the studio for 2 hours! I felt so relaxed and comfortable talking to them. Well I was happy to hear they felt the same way. Read this e-mail Jovanni sent me, it made me feel so happy...I am still smiling. Who doesn't like to hear compliments?

"Cynthia and I are very excited to have you and Susie as our photographers for this event. I did photography for around a decade and went to art school; with that in mind I wanted to say that I was genuinely impressed with your work. Cynthia and I felt really at ease with you, which was something we were looking for in a photographer. We look forward to talking further. Thanks for being awesome. Talk to you soon."

Cynthia and Jovanni,
I really can not wait for your wedding. I can not stress how important it is to click with who you are working with. I know I am going to have a blast working with you both!

What is up with all the bellies?

You know, now that Patty had her gorgeous little boy and my sister is waiting for Jordan to arrive, all I see are bellies!  Big bellies, small bellies...  Everyone seems to be pregnant!  And, this weekend, I have a maternity session-another belly...
What is up with all the bellies!?!?!

Picture this:  No sleep for 5 days, 30 minute breaks in between seminars (if you're lucky) and 700 wedding photographers.  That is the DWF Convention in Tampa.  And, we were there.  We have the under eye circles to prove it!!!
What an experience!  We were blown away. It was so inspiring to learn tips, techniques, innovative lighting and more from some of the world's top wedding photographers!

Many people get star struck when they meet celebrities. But being the photog geeks that we are, we were star stuck by Joe Buissink, Jessica Claire, Michelle Turner and Yervant to name a few!  These are some of the most respected, talented photographers in the business! And they were letting us into their world!  Amazing! We are truly inspired!  Our creative juices are flowing so beware!!!

Patty's Baby Shower

Patty's shower was today, and it was beautiful.  Her mom, Dahlia (our very own Martha Stewart) planned her shower.  And she thought of every detail!

The theme was "Citrus" and the colors were a vivid green, orange and yellow.

Everything was so gorgeous.  The event took place at Patty's Grandmother's ranch home in the Redlands.  The day was spectacular with a breeze that cooled off the heat from the sun.  And Patty looked stunning, sporting her belly!
The games included "Design Aiden's Onsie" where everyone got really creative!
We also played "Name the Baby Animal" where you had to match the baby animal name with the adult name.  It sounds easier than it was!
Aiden received TONS of gifts!  He has clothes galore!
Congratulations to Patty and Javi for their bundle of joy to come!!!  Many blessings to the little one!  Love you both!!!-Susie
